In Memoriam-A Permanent Feature

Postby D'Advisor » Fri Feb 24, 2006 4:30 pm

The recent death of Uwe Ramm brought to bear a fact of life. Many others in our AS! family have also passed from our conscious mind, to be remembered in fleeting moments.

The collective thought of AS! management and our entire community is that something on a permanent basis should be done, and be done it shall by having a living memorial to their accomplishments.

This memorial will be for those who thrived in our AS! family in good standing for two or more years and achieved an AS! level rating of 3 or higher. We strongly encourage your submissions of those to be included and gain permission to proudly display a photograph, their award graphic, mission statement and a bio.

We all agree that this effort is not only warranted, but required so others who follow in our footsteps may know those who freely gave encouragement, good will, cheer and were friends of the highest order.

Please furnish this information by emailing service@awardsites.com with "In Memoriam of _____" in the subject field.

Think it''s more appropriate to continue the conversation on THIS subject to the chuckles (so I did). Please have a look there for my answer....

Thanks Aiko and Denny. May I also suggest including those ''Top'' AP''s that closed their program due to illness :?:

Some have not renewed their domain, and it would be a loss to the AP community not to include the knowledge and experience of these gifted/ talented programs.

I take Bills point but think we should keep the proposed section for those who have passed, seperate from anything else. We''d have to change the section from ''memorial'' to something else - otherwise those who closed down their section due to illness would think we were being overly pessimistic about their chances of recovery. Anything less than a memorial would lessen it I think.

I know we currently have an unlinked list of sites that have been removed from the AS rating system - actually there are links to a single informational page for APs that were 5.0+).

I know there was a discussion about a central repository for award programs that closed down, so that information would not be lost...Not sure if this was a case of housing the whole program, or the main parts of it, with links to this for awarded sites rather than statements that the AP had closed. Perhaps something like this could be used for sites that close down, for whatever reason, illness included. (This - or a variation on this - could certainly satisfy Bill''s suggested route) The section could still have an AS tribute/comment about contributions to the award community.

(Not sure discussions about this ever went beyond the discussion phase...although some of you gurus may be actually working on something like this behind the scenes. The logistics of this might be a nightmare, especially if attempts are made to do this retrospectively  )

Struggling to gather sufficient information even shortly after death and then the required permissions is soul draining.

Many in the USA are probably not aware of Uwe''s involvement in the AP community. See this URL: http://home.arcor.de/boxerpage/award/evaluator.htm

Connie, Melanie and others (German friends) found Nadine Ramm for me and now the permissions for Uwe''s memorandum.

Other business is on the family''s mind, so a question to share. How could the expediting of permissions be granted for a picture, bio, AP graphic and AP mission statement?

Possibly a simple approach might be to have a provision in our AS! TOS which would permit use of the information from the members AP. That would be something like a provision in a living will. I cried trying to write this. I can still hear Uwe''s soft broken English and had to remember to speak in short sentences and quieten my Shelties where I could hear Uwe.

I really appreciate the idea to start a new section for the members passed away... It would be a good feeling to know that they will never be forgotten and especially Uwe Ramm, always living for his award and the community, would like the idea - I am sure!!

Uwe Ramm and James Binegar will both be uploaded at the next period.

Thank you to all who helped make their permanent tributes a reality.

The effort to secure permissions, gather the information and so forth would be expedited if there was a provision in our AS! listing terms of service, which would accommodate the timely inclusion of a bio; picture, AP graphic and AP mission statement.

To that end and with objective discussion, perhaps each of us would take this opportunity to review our own AP''s to determine whether the above information is readily available.

Not to dwell on what will happen to each of us with certainty, but we are a family and as such cuss, discuss and in the end time (of one or another) love each other as brothers and sisters of mother earth.
